Back Story for "The Details"

Rose & Thorn Journal has a recurring feature, called "Back Story," in which authors published in their journal discuss how their work evolved. As was previously announced here, they published my short story "The Details," about a young couple whose wife is dying. How three unrelated nonfictional experiences influenced the development of my short story can be read in Rose & Thorn here.

Just read your story and your back story and here's the comment I left:

Your story haunted me once and it's done the trick a second time. The key word in describing it is 'subtle'. I know that I bring dance into literature and song-writing very often, but I have to do it again. Your tale is what I look for in a choreography, the rough with the sweet. The pain the man feels is softened by his attempt at understanding loss. Superb.

Greetings from London.
