Congratulations, Judith! What an achievement! I did leave a comment at the Literary Lab Blog for your story. This is the content of the comment:

A very finely written short story by Judith Mercado. I am a great admirer of her writing style. In this story, especially, her style stands out. Her ability to enter her characters' psyches is amazing, and her delivery is outstanding. Her compassion and understanding for the characters leaves us feeling for them, and with them. By the end of the story, we know the characters very well, and we are living their world with them. A very elegantly executed piece of writing, indeed!

Judy,
As I read your story, I was reminded of my talks at medical/legal seminars. An ER doctor and I teamed up. At every one a part of my spiel concerned non-verbal communication, the infuence of inflection, expression, movement, etc.
I saw in your work communications of that type between a pair, long married.
In addition you left it to the reader to ponder what the communcation was and what it meant.
